Rain has prompted me to turn my thoughts to alignments of the LX200. My
previous post didn't draw any comment, so it must have been old hat. So
might this be, but if you don't know exactly where south is try this.
Level the tripod and 'scope as critically as one can. Point it to as
near south as you know it. Turn it on. 'Goto' a star as near to any
horizon that your view will allow. ( the lower the better). Using the
lowest
power eyepiece you have, (wider field of view) centre the star by
loosening the right ascension lock and slowly turning the 'scope. When
centred, tighten the lock, 'goto' azi 0 (zero) and south should be
there.
Of course you may just 'synch' on the star and you should be close to
aligned. If you were a long way out in your estimation of where south
was, then you might have to start up again in the new correct position,
because of the possible cord wrap problem, and refraction problems.
