I have been tempted several times to just rewrite the thing myself. I bet
I could do the job in a couple of weeks of concentrated effort. I wonder
if Meade would pay for the rights to it after I'm done?

Sure, that would be easy. But it would probably cost a few dollars more.
Maybe one of our EE members could devise an IR link that would fit between
the existing keypad and the existing base. I would pay $50 to $100 to
eliminate a cord.

Agreed. And I would greatly benefit from a few more known location
memories. I frequently observe from 6 or 8 different sites.
