While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I just completed 1-1/2 hours of Dec system modifications to my 12"
LX-200 to enable the additional weight of experimental equipment
planned for my Losmandy plate system. I did not have any previous
problems with my Dec drive, including excessive backlash or retrograde
motion going on 4 years use.
The side benefits are quite encouraging for others to minimize Dec
backlash, retrograde motion and quite possibly increase Dec drive
life beyond RA drive life. However, I still need to test my scope
thoroughly to see if there is a downside to these modifications.
I would also want to investigate their use on 8" and 10" scopes.
I am concerned that others may damage their scopes and/or need to
send them back to Meade if explicit instructions are not followed. I
would classify this as an advanced project that could be done by many
if very specific details are furnished, including pictures and parts.
What I need to know is anyone interested in a MAPUG posting of
explicit details describing Dec system modifications pointing to a
web site for further details and pictures? If enough interest exists, I
will seriously consider pursuing the matter.
