I've done this more times than I can remember. I'm sure the brief spurt of
power comes from the latent charge in the big filter capaciter behind the
power panel. So far, I've had no problems; each time it has worked fine
after plugging in the power. OTOH, this can't be good for it.

This is a pretty disgusting policy. If Meade thinks that the secondary
market for their scopes is irrelevant to their primary sales then they are
very confused. Secondary customers are still customers!
