While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Jacob,

If you want such mount with "GO-TO", than you are dreaming. If you are not
so conservative as someone here, you can consider the Vixen VC200L GP
8" F/9 cassegrain on the Great Polaris mount. All made in Japan.
With "SkySensor 2000" auto-pointer you will have "GO-TO" with large
data base. This GP mount has very smooth repeatable periodic error about +/- 7"
and using PEC function you can greatly decrease periodic error to +/- 2"-3" .
This will permit you to make as minimum 2min unguided exposures with CCD.
For many even faint objects this is enough, if not, you can use track and
accumulate
mode of your CCD camera.

I saw such mount on one of europian star party and was completely satisfied by
it perfomance ( and scope too! ). So, this is very nice alternative to 8"
LX200,
the total cost will not exeed $2700. And no problems. You can really
CCD-shooting
without any headache.

You can read much more additional information on Paul's Laughton web page.

Sincerely,

Valery.

P.S. Above scope is very nice alternative to 8" LX200. I hope that Vixen
will not
stop their achivements here. That 10" and 12" models will follow later.
If their prices will be within Meade's 10" and 12" or slightly
higher, I think
this will be long-waited end of the Meade's gegemony epoch.
