A counterweight is just that. Weight to counter balance weight. You may
need to
add weight on top to counter balance weight on the bottom. With the right
amount of weight at the right place (top or bottom) you should be able to
unlock the dec lock in almost any position with very little movement of the
OTA.
The Losmandy system works great for me. I use about 10 lbs. of weight to
counter
balance an ETX and a Ranger on top, Meade dew shield, NGF-S and 2" diagonal.
Your problem may be lack of weight on top. Adding weight to the bottom will
only make it worse.
