While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Re the cost of the Brandon 2-inch prism,I don't know what the Amici would cost
because I bought the whole Vernonscope package-- OT, prism and 2 inch 32 mm
eyepiece. Cost $995, about the same as a Pronto. The scope is 480mm, which
gives me 15x, and if I get their barlow it gives 36x. Obviously those
numbers would increase with a 2000mm SCT. But as I noted, shorter focal
length lenses won't come into focus at infinity, at least not on this
refractor. (I tried a 24-- no soap.) Frankly I've found this setup a little
clumsy for birding-- who wants to fiddle with a barlow then? (It's heavy,
too.) So I picked up a 1 1/4 45 degree prism from Meade, also correct
reading, and now I can use any eyepiece I want.
I'll check the Amici out on my SCT when I can get to where it is, which might
be a while.
