While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book

Well, here's my two cent's worth--I concur with your assessment
entirely--SN is prettier, and Voyager II seems more serious, and in my
field experience, more useful, as well. I saw Voyager II version 3.0 at
Macworld in San Francisco last week, and it looks like it's going to be
an impressive upgrade--many new things included actually because of
Starry Night's impact on their sales.
On the other hand, SN can be controlled and mated with a terrific little
database engine called InfoGenie from Casady and Green Software. The cool
thing about InfoGenie is that you can plan your night's observing session
in the warmth of your home, then literally "tour" those objects with the
click of a button. Awesome feature, and even more useful for
astrophotographers like you, Chris. Once the object is centered, up pops
an observer's notes field. I just ordered the InfoGenie add-on yesterday
on the strength of this feature. To read more about the InfoGenie add-on,
check out http://www.carmelcoast.com/pages/Robin/IG_Astro.html
It will take a while to get used to using SN instead of Voyager, I'm
sure, but within a month or two, I'm sure I'll know which one I prefer.
For now, Voyager is my favorite because it's the one I'm used to.
Have fun with whichever new Mac planetarium software you choose
(especially if you get a new PowerBook G3 to run it on--it screams! 80%
faster than a Pentium II 300MHz! Imagine Photoshop on *that*! Go for it!)
