Your question last week inspired me to do some searches of the general Pilot
sites, and I found two other great astronomically oriented programs.
1 - MOON - gives a graphical monthly calendar of lunar phases
2 - JMOONS - great program giving a graphic view of the 4 moons of
Jupiter for any time or date - to quote Bill Arnett's recent post "Way
cool!"
I was disappointed with AstroPilot. The 1000 star database is generic, the
terminology section is OK, but the 12 monthly star charts are less than
acceptable. I am thus putting together a more usable twelve, four seasonal
charts showing the location of LX200 alignment stars, and documents for DOC.
They include
1 - mythology on about 25 of the major constellations
2 - a COMPLETE Messier database with extensive discussion of each
3 - a month by month tour of the Messiers
4 - hopefully a "Burnhamm-like" text discription of the major
constellations
The first three are almost complete, and I will post a location where MAPUGers
can get them within a week. The last may take more time.
Hope that this is helpful. Others (Kal ?) talked once about developing a
hand controller for the LX. Is anyone doing such a project? Finally, while I
doubt the resources of the Pilot, a DOS program like SKYGLOBE might (?) work.
Comments from programmers??
