While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

>Does anyone have some tips/comments/suggestions as to how to control
reticle brightness on illuminated eyepieces? I use the Meade 9mm
(cordless) and it seems that the reticle is much too bright for off-axis
guiding, even with relatively bright stars.<

I took mine apart and put about 10 layers of red fingernail polish over the
LED. This filled up the well containing the LED and reduced its brightness
to much more useful levels.
