An additional thought: wool can be a bit itchy. I found a balaclava (one of those whole-head thingys), I think of Polartec 200, at REI for about $11. Extremely comfortable, doesn't itch, covers the neck, feels great, nice item. If buying a balaclava or ski mask, though, don't get one that covers your nose and mouth, as your breath will take the path of least resistance, which is upwards alongside your nose, out the eyehole, and directly onto your eyepiece (in other words, you'll fog the darn thing).
