I use a Nikon FG for astro as well as general photo and it works fine. The
only trick is that you need to use the auto timer to get mirror lockup.
Although the camera is electronic, the B shutter release is mechanical and
can work even if the battery is dead. It's a nice, reliable, light weight
camera. My only complaint is that it doesn't have interchangeable
focus screens. However, I have managed good results with the screen that
it comes with.
