While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Greetings to all happy (or not) 216XT camera owners. I want to ascertain
the time it takes you people to download your images from the moment the
image countdown has completed. I know it digitizes the image first, but
with the windows and the dos version there is apparantly a difference in
the digitizing times, but it could be just the programs.
My camera had very erratic download times ranging from 60 odd seconds to
around 3min 20 secs. My desktop computer is a 486 DX-2 66. The images
were unbinned. The camera has gone back for investigation.
In an article in the September S&T the 8 bit 208XT took 25 secs to
download, the 216XT (16 bit) took 75 secs. (He may have changed
computers, I don't know).
Maths, 208XT 336 x 244 pixels = 81984. (81984 x 8) = 655872 bits.
Assuming an approximate serial speed of 56Kb/s (655872/56000) =
11.7secs. download. Let's assume an 11.7 sec digitizing time, total 23.4
secs, almost spot on with the articles stated 25 secs.
216XT (16 bit) 81984 x 16 = 1311744 bits. (1311744/56000) = 23.4secs.
Again double for digitising = 46.8 secs. The article stated 75 secs.
My best time was 61 seconds I think, with the dos Pview.
Admittedly the computer has housekeepng duties, BUT nearly 20 secs!?
Hence my question to 216XT owners, please tell me what your download
times are, along with your computer details, so I'll know what to
expect.
Thanks in advance,
