Re: removing the slop, etc. Yep--I understand now what you are describing.
I DO have that condition--I thought it was "flexure"
of the tripod legs--after tightening that hand-knob down, I pull
slightly on the bottom of the legs at ground level and can usually get a
very slight movement--so next opportunity I have (when the OTA/fork
is removed), I'll check for the condition you describe.
