One thing you'll want to do also regarding the SF
mount. First I should start by saying I think the
mount is barely adequate for the heavy 10" SF. It
tracks well with the 8" but with the 10" balance
is critical!
I completely disassembled mine at one point and
noticed that both the RA and DEC shaft weren't
true round. They even had a few burrs here and
there. Using emery cloth I removed all burrs and
as many bumps as I could find. The RA shaft has
nylon mounts to add a little friction, and this
makes RA balancing difficult. I then used Blue
Magic polisher and a Dremel to shine up the RA
shaft to get it as smooth as possible. This was
hard work and took me several weeks, but RA
movement is MUCH better.
Check those shafts!
