I also bought my LX200 from Roger Tuthill. I called him because of his
telescope inspection option. When I called, I was very surprised to have
the phone answered by Roger Tuthill himself! Based on reviews in the
astronomy magazines, I intended to buy a Celestron Ultima 2000 (quieter,
runs on small batteries, etc). I noticed that Tuthill did not list the
Celestron in his ads, and asked about this. He told me that he would sell
me the Ultima, and liked Celestron in geneneral, but then gave me several
reasons why he much preferred the Meade computerized telescope over the
Celestron. I cant recall them all (included more accurate slewing,
inclusion of non-digital setting circles, better documentation), but he was
quite candid in his opinions, and debunked all of the objections in the
magazine articles.
I really appreciated his help, and ordered the Meade. I have been very
happy with my decision. Ive bought several other things from him, and
hes always been helpful. The telescope also had no problems when I
received it. The videos are not razzle dazzle professional, but are
informative, and after talking to him on the phone I enjoyed seeing what
Roger Tuthill looks like.
