While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
My past weekend with the adult Astronomy camp was a great success. I
was able to shoot two rolls of film through the mighty 61" scope. I
have uploaded two shots taken from those rolls to my webpage. The night
of October 17th had moments of amazing seeing and the views through the
scope where like none other I have ever seen of Jupiter or Saturn.
Fine detail was clearly visible within the redspot of Jupiter and the
crepe (sp?) ring was clearly visible in the rings of Saturn. Capturing
these kinds of details on film has proven extremely difficult. My shots
turned out quite nice however.
I decided to use the ultra fine grain slide film Fuji Velvia even though
it only has an ISO of 50. Prime focus through the 61" f/13.5 yields
Saturn only a few millimeters across and so the grain of the film is
more important than the speed. And at f/13.5 I was able to shoot with
exposures around 1/4 second for Saturn even with this slow film.
