While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
OK I know this isn't a Meade telescope question though I have a Meade
LX50-10. I just bought a Celestron G-5 as my portable scope. When I
checked the collimation, it was significantly off, so I removed the
diagonal and collimated it both ways from the focus point and everything
was cool. The images with the EP in but NO diagonal are fine. However,
once I put the 45 degrees diagonal back in, the OUT focus collimation is OK
but the INWARD past focus collimation has the secondary mirror shadow way
out in the 1:00 direction near the outer circumference of the primary ring.
When I remove the diagonal and imeediately look at the refraction rings,
they are perfectly concentric. This occurs with all four diagonals I own.
Anyone have a reasonable explanation for this phenomena? NOTE: The rear
cell has 2 screws which hold either just the eyepieice or a diagonal.
ANy suggestions as to what is wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
