While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

[NAG ON] Ah, folks, its spelled "collimation" [NAG OFF]

Chris,

I'm sorry, but my experience is right in line with Bruce's.
Commercial SCTs simply do not hold their collimation during
transportation. For that matter they will rarely hold it
through an entire night.

Keep in mind that what looks good for visual use will readily
show up in imaging. For that matter, collimation that produces
a good DSO image at native FL will produce horrible images when
you move to extremely long FL planetary imaging.

During the evening tube shrinkage can be enough to warrant
recollimating if you are attempting planetary work. I suggest
you read Thierry Legault's page at <http://www.astrosurf.com/legault/>.
Near the bottom you will see the links for his articles.
