While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I have the 9mm and find it's a bit short on eye-relief for an eyeglass
wearer. The movable reticle also has it's drawbacks. It's useful for
centering a star on the crosshairs but to do this the FOV is greatly
restricted (you are looking through a small movable circle with the
cross in it). The cross also doesn't co-incide with the centre of the
optical axis unless the reticle is centred. I bought the battery version
and the damn thing always ended up with flat batteries because I left it
switched on, eventually I made a screw-in LED powered from the front
panel so I I can use either power source. It is (alledgedly) parfocal
with some of Meade's CCD products (the 201XT for example).
Worth investigating - the Vixen GF4. More bulky perhaps, but you can use
any 1-1/4" eyepiece with it (low-power, high power, whatever you like).
Looking at the picture, the reticle image appears to be transmitted
through a semi-silvered prism or mirror, and the reticle image is also
movable - effectively just the same as with the Meade 9mm. I've not used
one, but I intend to look at one closely first chance I get.
