I know this isn't a question specific to Meade scopes, but figured I'd =
ask since I used to own a 10 and 8 LX-200. Hope that counts. Here =
goes...

I have my first GP mount (Vixen GP-D) and am trying to figure out how =
the heck to set the time/date scales on the mount to align polaris just =
right inside the polar axis scope. Here's what the manual says...

6) Look at a map or atlas that shows the longitude of your observing =
site (ok fine, no problem here).
Once you know your longitude, find the difference between that and the =
standard time meridian for your zone (what the heck does this mean? I =
live near Phx, AZ). Set the difference on the time meridian offset scale =
(ok, I can do this if I know how to determine the difference). If your =
observing site is located in the east of the standard time meridian, set =
the E side graduation to the time meridian indicator. If in the west, =
set the W side graduation to the time meridian indicator (once again, ok =
I can do this once I know how to get this figure in the first place).

After step 6 is performed the manual goes on to step 7...

7) Set "0 hour" on the R. A. and hour graduation ring to the R. A. =
indicator after loosening the graduation-ring setscrew. Re-tighten the =
graduation-ring setscrew (this step is easy enough - no problem here).

And then, finally where I am having the most problem...step 8!

8) Unfasten the R. A. clamp and turn the telescope around the polar axis =
to set the observing date on the date graduation ring to the observing =
time on the R. A. and hour graduation ring. This is the step I'm not =
following. The date graduation ring is numbered 1-12. The R. A. and hour =
graduation ring is numbered 0-23. What do these scales represent? Is the =
1-12 the month and 0-23 the hour? Do I just match the month to the time?

Help is much appreciated.
