While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

The price I paid for my scope is not as exhorbitant as it sounds:

The aussie dollar is miserable at the moment, its worth around 60 cents
(was nearly 80 cents 18months ago :(

we also have to pay 26% sales tax

air freight on a scope is around $400

so overall its not too bad.

meade now sells direct to Australia and the prices aren't too bad. Several
years ago when they had local agents you could fly to the US, spend a day
there buying your scope, hop on a plane back to Australia with your scope,
and still have change from what the local agents charged!!!!

I commiserate with our UK brethren!! We used to get screwed they way they
still do.
