While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Theoretically with a polar mounted LX-50 your dec drive should rarly have to
come on. If you polar align with precision (drift align) then you should have
no noticable declination drift for over 20 minutes in a 9mm illuminated
reticle EP.

Your declination motor should rarly have to be used in exposures under 5 min
even for CCD work.

If you want to do the dec motor upgrade, go ahead, it can only benefit your
operation, but be aware that your dec motor is considered un-necessary in a
properly polar-aligned scope. Proper polar alignment is a pain in the #ss,
but if you are considering a permanent mounting for your scope, it only has
to be done once. All the corrections you will have to make will be RA.
