Wow, I have never had a problem to get my ST-7 to find a suitable guide star with
the self guiding chip. It seems that no mater where I point the thing, it is able
to find at least one star suitable for guiding. To me it's almost like magic. I
don't know how SBIG did it.

With a well focused and centered guide star the extra area of the chip is
useless. I guess it would be helpful in locating the guide star if it wasn't
centered well.
