Wow! It appears I have set my sights pretty high. I plan on having
the scope first in my yard, and then putting a dome on the roof, with easy
access from the house. Sorry to hear the LX may not be the right solution
for a remote system. I would like to eventually operate fully remote with a
location in the mountains west of Boulder. Sounds like I will learn the
pitfalls of doing all this with the LX in my backyard and see how the
technology and my skills evolve.

What kind of scope do you feel is better suited for remote
operations?

Thanks for your help, Doc!

Steve

While I would not be quite so abrupt, I would suggest that you have
a very bad
start with your project. I have worked for two years to just get an
observatory to
work from a nearby building. Where you can run out and fix things
easily. I have
still got very serious problems. This is a real challenge.

I do not believe that the LX telescope is an appropriate starting
point for such a
project. I hope and trust that mapug members will not consider this
a put down of
the LX telescopes. They have many wonderful features. But they do
not, in my
opinion, have the mechanical stability and overall reliability to be
the central
actor in a fully remote operation. (the LX 200 16" might be an
exception, but I
doubt it)

If anyone has actually done what you propose, using an LX as the
basis of the
operation, I would certainly like to hear about their system in
detail. I will
copy it immediately. :-)
