While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

In a message dated 12/1/98 8:45:24 AM Pacific Standard Time,
<< Is it possible to track accurately
(no drift for 10-15 minutes) and still be off in polar alignment ?? >>

I think that the short answer here is no. I believe that no drift is a fair
definition of polar alignment. If the star will stay in the reticule box or on
one of the lines at high power for more than five minutes, the scope is very
well polar aligned. If it does not thereafter point accurately to the chosen
star, there is some other problem. For photographic purposes, I believe that
good polar alignment is generally much more important than achieving pin point
pointing accuracy on every GoTo.
