While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

The message title seems to be LX-200 and the Millenium but was missing when I
received the post, so I took the liberty of adding it, so I could sneak in the
following response. :-)

Dave Barry, the humorist, had a few good lines in his column regarding the Y2K
problem. He talked at some length how women are on much slower time than men,
always late. He tied this to his wife when he mentioned that Cubans, his wife is
Cuban, almost entirely disregard time. He quipped, for Cubans, 2000 will really
occur in 2004, so they aren't worried. I suspect something of that sort applies to
third world countries. Are they worried? :-)

As an aside, if you are interested in the history of events around the Millennium,
take a look at Stephen Jay Gould's book on the Millenium. In addition to that
particular topic, he has an excellent and poignant chapter on idiot savants.
