<sigh>
tonight i tried to get the preliminary stuff done on my brand new 10",
setting the site and time and etc. when i first turned on the power, the
declination started running at slew speed, and would not stop. after two
complete rotations, i turned it off.
as i continued to try to operate this beast, i found that the RA movements
work just fine, at the speed expected, but the declination behavior was
erratic. the N button seems not to work, and the S button seems to lock on
and will not cancel. if i unplug the declination power patch cord, change
speed with the hand paddle, and reconnect the cord, the declination motor
stops. it stays stopped if i press the N key, but if i hit S, it starts to
move and will not stop.
i have powered off several times, and the problem does not go away with a
reset.
leaving the declination power unplugged, i was able to set the site
location and time information with no difficulty.
two more disturbing things about the scope's behavior: the declination
motor does not always run continuously -- it sometimes gets into a "jiggle"
mode, as if it is against a stop and cannot continue, though there is
nothing blocking the movement. also, the behavior of the declination motor
is not always exactly as described above, just most of the time, though it
never works correctly (well, never so far).
