While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Comments have been made about using software eg., Guide to compare
star fields with the contents of CCD images, for the purpose of
identifying each object shown in the image. I have not found this to
be possible.

Virtually every image that I have obtained from my CCD camera has
produced objects that are not shown on the Guide display. Even only
going down to mag 13 or so, there are objects not identified. This
does not prevent dual-image comparisons being made for attempts at
nova/asteroid discovery. Curiously, my recent image of the comet
Jager region does not show any trace of it! I was using IAU positions
and piggybacking the CCD camera on my LX200.

Comments and advice welcomed.
