While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
This has probably come up before, but I was wondering how much more
you can see with the 12" vs the 10". I currently have a 10"
LX200 version 2.5 firmware, and was going to go ahead and use some
tax refund to upgrade the motherboard and controller. This last week's
paper, however, had a 12" in the classifieds for $1900. That price
seems a LOT lower than what I see on Astromart. If the 12" is in good
condition, would you recommend upgrading? Since used LX200s usually
go for about 60-70% of the new price, should I be suspicious of
a price this low (ie - "Good condition, dropped only once" :)?
Most of my observing is from my driveway on a relatively quiet street.
That reminds me, can I use the JMI wheely bar I have on my 10" with
the 12" giant tripod? Right now I keep the scope covered in my garage
and wheel it out, saving the issue of heavy lifting.
If I do decide to get the 12", what would be a fair price for
the 10" with the older 747 object database. Optics seem to be good,
but I haven't compared enough scopes to make a fair judgment.
Thanks,
Mike Marks
