While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book

If your going to butt up to the existing concrete use some expansion joint
material , they carry it at most building supply places . (i.e. home depot
ect..) If you are going to cap over your pier foundation, then you can put
some sand over it to create a bond breaker. then wrap the pier in some
expansion joint. this will allow movement of the slab to not affect the
pier. also I would suggest some vapor barrier on the ground 6mil visqueen
is what I use on jobsites ..
