I'm no big fan of Meade's engineering but this time they got it
right. The fact that all motors are OFF when moving east in Guide
speed is a very good thing. The main reason is that the gear lash is
unaffected so that when you press W again you don't have to wait for
the slop to take up. But I like it because it lets me see what the
image looks like without the motor jitter (the Earth's rotation is
very smooth :-)

BTW, the stars move at the same rate thru the field with either W or
E pressed. W causes the RA motor to run at 2x sidereal rate;
subtracting the "1x" that is necessary to keep up with the Earth and
you have the stars moving at exactly the same rate (but in the
opposite direction) as when the motors are stopped with the E key
pressed.
