Greetings,
Im using an ST-7E(MAC version CCDOPS 3.52)/CFW-8 combination on my 10" f/10
LX-200. I also have a JMI NGFS and an Optec 3.3 focal reducer. Ive found
that I cannot use the 3.3 reducer with the CFW-8 combination. The Optec 3.3
works well when used in conjunction with the ST-7E/JMI focuser combination
only. Add the CFW-8 and forget it. The 1" width does a number on the Optec.
When I contacted Optec they suggested I purchase their color slide system (@
$1000+) if I wanted to image in RGB using their 3.3. I then tried the new
Meade 3.3 (with and without the supplied variable T-adaptor) with still no
luck. I then tried the Celestron 6.3 in combination with the
ST-7E/CFW-8/NGFS and it worked. Ive contacted Meade, SBIG, Optec and JMI
regarding using a 3.3 reducer with my set-up. None of them had any
suggestions other than the one proposed by Optec. Bottom line, I can BW
image at 3.3 but I am limited (for the moment) to 6.3 in RGB. I must admit
that SBIG wasnt particularly helpful. When I asked them if they intended to
market a 3.3 for the ST-7/8 (like they do for their ST-4/5 systems) they
told me they presently have no plans to do so. Bummer! Also, for anybody
else out there using the Mac version of CCDOPS, SBIG also told me they have
no plans on incorporating the "Color Combination" command into the Mac
version. If you want to process an RGB image then you will need to purchase
a third-party (e.g. Photoshop) image processing program. Any suggstions to
anything Ive posted here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
