Steve,

I just received mine as well, and am still waiting on my Autostar to really
do a test, but I found that you have to snug up the axis locks fairly tight
to get the drives to move in a consistent manner. I have experiences some
of what you describe. Try different levels of tightness on the dec and ra
locks.

Supposedly, when you train the motors with the Autostar, some, most of the
backlash is compensated for, at least thats the theory,
