While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

One of the selling points when I decided to buy the LX200 was the
computer's ability to increase its pointing accuracy over time by
remembering manual centering adjustments (PEC). I don't recall ever
reading that this feature was not available in Alt-Azim mode, which is the
only mode I intend to use.

Imagine my surprise when I read page 35 of the manual and found that the
Smart Drive (which, as best I can tell, because the manual doesn't seem to
say, is the technical name for the PEC feature), is available only in Polar
mode, and only if you own and use an equatorial wedge. That essentially
makes it useless to me.

Can somebody please confirm that the Smart Drive is the same thing as PEC?

Also, was I mistaken in believing that PEC would increase the computer's
pointing accuracy over time? In reading the manual, it sounds as if it's
useful only for tracking, which presumably of most use only for
astrophotography.

Thanks.
