While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

With an expected return date of May 10th, I was pleasantly surprised to
find a box from Meade at my door step yesterday. Inside I found what
appeared to be all my original components with the exception of two
large resistors dangling from wires attached to the motherboard, and big
globs of black glue on the side of the RA assembly where the encoder
mask sits.

I have reinstalled all the components and remounted my LX200 on my
pier. It seems to work fine once again with a few minor exceptions.

Slewing seems quieter now, but that my just be the new grease I put on
the gears. I did notice something that made me a little concerned.
There where traces of the black epoxy glue that Meade used to fix the
encoder problem on the worm gear itself. I tried to remove it with my
finger nails but it would not come off. I didn't want to try anything
harder than that just yet until I see what kind of affect it has. I
suspect that while tracking, when that place on the worm becomes in
contact with the RA gear it will cause a significant jump or roughness
in tracking. I got clouded out last night, so I couldn't test the
tracking for a full 8 minutes.

The Dec backlash seems much more severe now. I'm hoping that it is just
a matter of reseating the Dec assembly as I had no problems with that
before.

Meade was kind enough to upgrade my ROMs from 3.32 to 3.32L. I don't
know what the difference is, but I'll take it anyway.

The invoice just said, "RA drive failure" with no other explanation.

Meade was able to repair my problem in 10 days, when they said it would
take 3 weeks. I am pleasantly surprised.
