Hello Mapuggers,
I'm still awaiting the delivery of my 12" scope. So I have to ask
another question. Are there any web sites that you know of that have
good pictures of telescope piers? I do not want a pier that requires the
purchase of the super wedge, but would rather design the tilt(35
degrees) into the pier. Other questions are:
1. What would be an appropriate height (from floor level to angled
post) for the vertical post?
2. How long should I make the angled post?
3. Considering that 6" square steel will be used with a wall thickness
of 1/4" welded to a 16" square base of 3/8 steel, would gussets be
required? If so, on the lower edge, on the telescope flange, or both?
4. To allow for telescope attachment, I was planning on using four
3/4x8" bolts to offset the pier flange from the telescope plate. This
would allow approx. 6" of hand space to tighten the bolts on the
telescope base, plus allow for fine tuning of the flange if I don't get
the pier set exactly to north. Does six inches give you enough room to
start and secure the mounting bolts? Are there any other options you can
think of to access the bottom of the telescope flange?
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Ron
