While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Ron
I made 6 piers for our club. Most have a Meade on them. I made them out of
10" round tube .250 wall thickness. The base plate is 1" X 16" diameter. The
holes for the bolts are elongated about 2" for adjustment in RA. The bolts
are 3/4" X 18" they are set 15" in the concrete leaving 3" out for mounting.
The base is 20" X 36" deep poured concrete. before you pour the base
determine the angle of Polaris. Line the side bolts with Polaris. (this will
get you close) I made the tube about the same height as the tripod. At the
top, I cut an angle in the tube, to equal 1/2 of the angle I needed for my
latitude. I took the piece left over and turned it around to make the angle I
wanted. This piece is about 3" on the short side. I welded a piece of 1/2"
plate to make the base for the scope. The bolt pattern in this plate is the
same as the base of the Meade OTA. Cut a 4" hole in the side near the top so
you can bolt on the scope. Don't forget to wire the pier for power before you
pour concrete. Leave the conduit up about 3' and set the pier over it. Put a
receptacle on the back of the pier and away you go. Good luck Gary
