A question for the group:
I consider myself an intermediate amateur astronomer with interests
in a wide range of visual (only) observations. I have been involved with
astronomy for many years, but on an off and on basis as work and time
have allowed. I own a LX50 7" MCT.
Here is my question: How important an accessory is a Magellan for
my LX50? I am very comfortable finding the brighter deep sky objects
and most of the Messier list, but I struggle with fainter objects. I
observe often from my home on the edge of Tucson (good western sky) and
travel to very dark skies a half dozen times a year. (I will be at the
Grand Canyon Star Party in June.) I am sure that there will be a
learning curve with the Magellan, and that there may even be some
frustrations. To you Magellan owners (and to a lesser degree, LX 200
owners), is it worth it? Or is my Telrad and patience the better
investment, with my accessory money going to other fun astronomical
accessories?
I would appreciate your input.
