While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

It's an excellent idea; I did that for mine. You can really cram a lot of
useful space into a small area. The basic dimensions I used were 12'x8' for
the obs. I partitioned off 5'x8' at the north end for my computer and work
area, leaving 7'x8' for the observing area. This has turned out to be plenty
of room for the scope, although the dimensions were not picked for any
ergonomic reason; I calculated the distance I would need from the scope
to the non-opening roof peak so that Polaris would always be visible.

If you want to heat the enclosed section at all, be sure to put plenty of
insulation in the roof to minimize thermals over it (which is why I put
the room on the north end).
