While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I was channel surfing Friday night, too many other things to do to take the
scope out but I <could> make time to channel surf, and I wound up on the
Discovery channel. They were showing a 24" professional-type telescope in
an Ash dome controlled by a PC and demonstrating digital imaging. Then they
were telling how a digital camera can store up information and how it is
different from the eye and better than film because of receprocity failure
of emulsions.

<Then> they said anyone could do the same thing from their backyard on a
slightly smaller scale and they have what amounts to an infomercial for
Meade. They show and talk about an 8" Meade LX200, demonstrate it's
computer GOTO capabilits, it's 64,000 object database, it's hand controller,
and how you can slew to new objects with your laptop computer. Then they
demonstrate a Pictor digital imager and what you can do with a less than
5,000.00 investment. If that were not enough, the thing that caught my
attention was they were talking about this in the manner that this was going
to be the next new "thing" and that every whiz kid in America was going to
want one of these. This was going to be the next big "wave". It was pretty
exciting whether you buy into that or not. Maybe our little hobby is about
to catch on.
It has grown a lot in the last 30 years.

Remember, yesterday is history, tomorrow's a mystery and today's a
gift, that's why it's called, The Present.
