While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I have found that the only reason for the keypad is to set the box up for a
flash ROM update. There has not been one of these for a while (if you start the
PictorView software and connect you should see 3.10 as the version number for
the camera). The keypad was intended to allow you control the camera without
software or a computer. This is why there is a slot for a never implemented
floppy drive and a slot for a video driver. So do not worry about the keypad.
FITS 1.1 format is the original FITS format definition. It used two digits for
year, so was not century friendly (something people mistakenly call the Y2K
problem). FITS 1.2 is the revised format which changed the date format and the
date keyword. This format is century friendly. PictorView allows you to read
either format independent of the selection of FITS format. It allows you to
write in either format depending on which option you select. This was done to
allow for the new format and to permit users to retain the old format for
compatibility with programs that only accept the FITS 1.1 format.
