Hello to all
I had a short opportunity last night to use my new 416XT. My first
impression is that this is a very impressive bit of gear. Even full
frame download is faster on serial than the 216XT, however there are
still some software problems. As time goes on I'll make an accurate note
and inform Meade of what I find.
One that has me wondering though, I tried autocentre last night, and the
star was actually moved three times in the opposite direction, finally
off screen. The movement was in R.A. only. The star used was Regulus.
The 'scope is set for southern hemisphere, and the buttons and goto work
correctly.
I am unable to calibrate the camera, as that option is greyed out in the
program. How can I convince the camera it is in the south.
Does any-one else in the southern hemisphere have this problem ? I'm
assuming of course, that it is a calibration problem. I even tried the
'reverse ease/west' option on the keypad, but that didn't make any
difference.
Contrary to the manual, the safe thermal shutdown (slow warm up) does
seem to work. I left the program running for about the 20 minutes it
took, and watched the temperature at the bottom of the screen slowly
creep up to near ambient before switching off.
Does any-one have any idea of what temperature it should be, at switch
off?
Above zero good enough? We rarely get much below 15 to 20C :-)
:-)))
You may recall my recent questions of the salt & pepper screen after
download on my 216xt. I had downloaded the latest 6.44 b1, but the .ini
file with the new parameters was not included with it. I must have
gotten the wrong one.
The program with the 416 works well on the star display. One thing I
wish was available is the ability to blink two negatives. Another
magnitude could be attained.
So far so good. I'm beginning to feel a little smug about this gear.
SCSI card on the way.
Regards to all
Vince Gardiner
