Most interesting! ACP's alignment wizard does just as you describe,
iterate between some star near the celestial equator and away from the
RA of Polaris (or Sigma Octans in the SH). I concluded that the Dec
calibration did make a difference. Now you have my curiosity raised!
I'll bypass that part and see how the alignment goes. I too hav
EXCELLENT results from the iterative process, I routinely take
unguided 10 minute exposures, e.g.,
