While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi,
Forgot who asked the question but java does not know anything about local
hardware only networks as it is supposed to be platform independent..
If your LX was connected to a network to serial port converter you could
talk to the converter .This would be the type that is currently used at
present to convert old non networked printers to work on a network. NT also
is very strict in that all port access is via drivers. If you load old
software that trys to talk directly to hardware then all hell can be let
loose. I am afraid that serial ports are on the death list for PC's and it
will not be long before they disappear all together.
