I don't believe that you will get any optical benefit out of using a 2"
diagonal with 1.25" eyepieces. I have a Meade diagonal with the Schmidt
threads. Unless you add a washer or o-ring, it sometimes locks down on
the scope, i.e gets tough to loosen. This can be a pain when frequently
adjusting the orientation of the diagonal. I use an industry standard
no. 2-133 o-ring (1-13/16" x 2" x 3/32") although some folks recommend
cutting washers out of a margarine tub lid (I think they use one behind
the collar too.) I figured a $1 modification made the cost savings of
the Meade worthwhile as compared to the Tele Vue diagonals, although
most folks seem to regard the Tele Vue products as optically superior. I
would definitely say that the Meade is "decent."
I like the 2" diagonal especially for 1.25" eyepieces that have a 2"
skirt. Either with or without an 1.25"-2" adapter, this seems like a
much more robust way to couple these heavier eyepieces to the scope.
