I owned a 208XT for about 2 years. I used it almost exclusively as an autoguider with my
10" LX200. I had great difficulty getting it to work consistently with an Orion off axis
guider. I used it with a guide scope quite successfully, but had other problems during long
exposures which forced me back to using an off axis guider. I then bought a Lumicon Giant
Easy Guider which worked much better than the Orion off axis guider, but I still found
acquiring and locking on a guide star very frustration work with the 208XT. After I saw
first hand how well the ST4 worked, I sold my 208XT and bought a ST4. The ST4 is in a whole
different league in terms of ability to guide of real life off axis guide stars, and it
guides on much fainter stars as well.
The imaging I did with the 208XT was OK, but at only 8 bits, and with such a small chip, I
didn't really feel it was worth it. I now use an ST7 for my CCD imaging.
I hope this helps.
