While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi, Ted:
I've had good experience ("beginner's luck") with short exposures (15 - 45
minutes, depending on the brightness of the target) using Konica SR-G 3200
(ISO 3200), Kodak Gold 1000, Kodak PMZ1000, and Kodak PMJ (nominally 640,
not readily available in local shops anymore). The Konica is a great
beginner's film: very fast and good color. It is, of course, very grainy.
Get it from Orion or Lumicon. Kodak Gold 1000 is also very grainy but has
very good color. If you can scan the negatives, you can reduce the apparent
grain appreciably with the freeware program "bigsmooth" or PhotoShop's blur
filter. Figure on 8x10 maximum enlargements with these films. I would also
recommend using a light pollution filter for your shots unless you are in an
unusually dark area.
Bert
