I agree with Ric, building a Cookbook CCD, while not for everyone, was a
very enlightening experience. I had no electronics experience; it took me
two and a half months and about $700 to get a working camera. I have since
repaired a couple of minor problems that would have required a trip to the
manufacturer otherwise. All in all, it is worth the effort when you see
that first image show up on your computer screen.
