I also agree that building a cookbook as an educational experience sounded
great, but $700 was a lot for me to fry, so I opted for the Starlight
Express MX5 for the same price, higher resolution, and let the experts
worry about waranteeing my investment. I missed out on the electronics
lesson, but was immediately putting effort into imaging (which is a much
stiffer challenge itself than I anticipated). Had the cookbook parts been
maybe half what they are, sure, but for the same price it is hard to
justify a build your own (or worse, botch your own).
